Housing

TCF-New England endeavors to assist those who have been left homeless even today, many months after the earthquake. One such region is the village of Gul Dehri in Battal (Mansera district).  This is a region where all the homes and infrastructure have been lost, and human misery and desolation is unfathomable. TCF New England hopes that the people of Boston will open their hearts and wallets, in typical Bostonian fashion to alleviate the suffering of their fellow human beings. With as little as 6,700 dollars, we can give a family in this region a place to call home. And this will be no ordinary shack. The money raised at the fundraiser will pay for houses that have been tested at MIT (in our very own city!) for high levels of seismic resistance, and ensure that any future tragedies do not cause such human misery due to collapsed housing. The houses will be built with local labor and indigenous materials, but using international standards and designs thus providing livelihood for the population while ensuring quality. For only a small amount of money, we are helping these communities rebuild their lives and their homes. TCF-New England beseeches you to help us in fulfilling the “Boston Project” which will construct homes in the regions as a “Gift from the residents of Greater Boston”.

About TCF Relief

The Oct 8th earthquake resulted in 788,000 damaged and destroyed housing units and has left over 3.5 million people homeless. This was a tragedy of unparallel proportions in the history of a young and developing nation. Human anguish and pain is only exacerbated by  the lack of shelter in the harsh conditions of the region. Taken up the call of humanity,  TCF has adopted 42 villages in Muzzafarabad and Mansera Districts with the goal to rehabilitate these villages and the earthquake affectees. Our relief work focuses on recreating the entire lifestyles and infrastructure, including 5000 seismically viable homes, roads, dispensaries, shops, schools, water supply systems, and to provide everything that is needed to reinitiate life for those who have survived. While we can not compensate the human loss, we can at least endeavor to reestablish the means of life for those who have lived.
